Most of the time, pots and pans are frequently made of metal, making them susceptible to rust when they are left in prolonged exposure to moisture. That single rust stain that appears on the surface of your pot and quickly spread around if it’s not quickly taken care of, thereby leaving your pot unusable. The good news is, rust stains can be cleaned off most metal surfaces, especially cast iron. These tips will help you take out/ prevent rust from your cookware.
Clean while warm
Cooking can be fun but cleaning up after can be a chore most people often like to run away FROM. However, no matter how tired and exhausted you are, cleaning up immediately after cooking should be a good habit you practice. Cleaning your pots/fry pan immediately after use (while still warm) can help you prevent a situation of cookware rust.
Coat with Oil
Now maybe not a lot of people know this, but one simple way of preventing cookware rust is by coating it with some oil before cooking. Rub a quarter sized amount of olive oil into pots and pans using a paper towel. The oil helps you create a protective coating that can help you prevent rust.
Avoid Moisture-
Moisture is the major culprit which causes rust, it is important for you to keep your cookware dry immediately after every use. Use a lint-free towel to remove moisture from the inside & outside of your pot and pan. After which you can place it on the stove or cooker and let it heat up for just a few seconds (30-60 seconds) After taking it off the stove/cooker, set it aside to cool before storing it.
Clean with Hot water
Cleaning your cast iron cookware with hot water and a sponge can also save you a lot trouble from rust. Bring some water to boil, soak your pots for a few minutes and wash thoroughly with a sponge. Remember to take out the moisture immediately after washing. You can place a dry napkin inside it before setting it on a dry rack.
