Depending on the design and the material, different pieces of contemporary furniture will require different methods to keep them in a perfect condition that ensures a moderate lifespan. For instance, caring for the Ankara fabric will require a different approach from caring from a furniture piece with an Aso-oke covering. So what are the best bays to keep your Ankara throw pillows, bean bags or sofa coverings in the best condition? Find some tips below.
Tips for Ankara coverings
- Don’t wash with Detergents- When embarking on a cleaning project for furniture pieces made with Ankara, it’s often advisable to use mild soap, especially if you are washing with your hands. Detergents are known to easily fade fabrics as they are very harsh, especially when using them on the Ankara fabric.
- Clean only when necessary– While it’s a good option to carry out routine cleaning of your furniture pieces, with Ankara coverings, you should try as much as possible to completely immerse in water only when necessary. In situations of little stains or smudges, the affected area should be carefully cleaned out without having to get the whole piece into water.
- Hand-washing is a better option– It’s very convenient and time saving to throw your Ankara coverings or soft furniture pieces in the washing machine, however, if you wish to enjoy your items, hand washing is a better option for you. Dryers and washers can be extremely rough on the Ankara fabric.

Cotton Aso Oke
Furniture covers made from cotton Aso-oke are usually hand-woven using cotton yarns, and for that reason they usually do not require to be cleaned on a regular basis, especially if they come in dirt resistant colors. Like the Ankara covers, you are also not advised to throw your aso-oke furniture coverings into the washing machine, as this can cause serious damage. You should-
-Wash with your hands using a mild soap
-Iron using hot iron with its setting set to cotton
Metalic Aso Oke
Metallic Aso Oke is woven manually using synthetic / silk yarn and they’ve a great feature of repelling dirt excellently. Like the cutton aso-oke, it is also advisable to hand wash using mild liquid soap. Note that furniture coverings made from metallic aso-oke should never be ironed.
