Have you ever considered that the reason you find it difficult to show your family and friends how much effort and money you put into designing your space is because of your bad lighting choice? In today’s blog post titled Light up your space Decorhubng shares with you, some amazing tips to help you plan and select the right light choices for your home.

Thomas E. Farin, a lighting consultant once said “Light is the first element of design; without it there is no color, form, or texture.” We couldn’t agree more with Thomas. No matter how much work or how expensive the décor pieces you have put together are, you can never really get the best of them if you fail to light up your space properly. You don’t want the room to be dimly lit and you also don’t want an out-pour of artificial sunshine in your room.
It’s important to consider the appropriate kind of lighting for each room. A mix of light sources at different levels help you create a flattering ambience and you also need to create an appropriate task lighting for whatever you do in that space. For example, an overhead light in your kitchen, a table lamp in your study and so on. You can check out our range of lamps here.
When lighting your Living room, it’s best to light three of the four corners, focusing one of those lights on an object (art, a plant). Use a combination of table lamps and floor lamps, some with a downward glow and some that shine upward.

For your Dining room, make the table the brightest spot in the room. Use a chandelier or a pendant (fixtures suspended from a chain or cord) above the table, limiting the total wattage to 100. You want to give the space a subtle glow.

To light up your Kitchen, focus on overhead lighting (on a dimmer that you can crank up when cooking), and add lower sources to illuminate work surfaces. Use pendants, under-cabinet lights, or a sturdy table lamp (kept away from the sink).

It’s important to aim for a cosy, insular atmosphere in your Bedroom. You can place reading lamps or candle-holders by the bed—but not pointed directly at it. On a low table, include a small, intimate lamp with a tinted low-wattage bulb to mimic candlelight.

Usually, you need a lot of light in your bathroom, but here in Nigeria, that is dictated by your location. You don’t want to give the neighbourhood a show at night! Consider using dim lights if your bathroom isn’t concealing enough, and then you can have your bathroom shine like a diamond if you have all the privacy you need.
