Is your home December ready???
Is your home December ready???
It’s been a long and amazing 2018! So much has happened in the past few months and one can only imagine what’s to come in the last lap of the year. Surely, there’s a whole lot of celebration to come as the festive season is only a few weeks away. Folks are heading back to the villages. Other folks from the Abroad are coming back home to spend the festive season in the comfort of home, amidst friends and families. All these activities can turn out to be overwhelming without proper planning for the season. So, do you think you have it all figured out? Is your home December ready??? Create a checklist to keep track. If you are able to tick off 80% percent off your checklist, then you are good to go!
So let’s start with space management.
Is there enough room for everybody?
Except you have an all-time ground rule of keeping family and friends out of your home during festive periods, you can be assured that your home will have to be accommodating two or more people during the holidays. Now you wouldn’t want to be the bad host that sends off your guest to take the couch. It’s also not a great idea to have your kids take the couch either. So how do you plan ahead, most especially in a case where you don’t have guest rooms? (We all know that is a luxury in Lagos; especially the mainland homes)
First, the last week in November or the first week in December is a great period for you to clear out your home and create more spaces in nooks and corners that house unused souvenirs and other items that have been collected over the course of the year. (You’d be surprised how much space you actually have). These spaces after being cleared should be reserved for luggage, travel bags etc. that your guests will most likely be coming with.
In a case where there is no guest room, you should spend the week last week of November (Which is luckily the salary week) investing in a short use foldable mattress. With this mattress in place, you wouldn’t have to worry so much about who is taking the bed or not as comfort is guaranteed for either party. Another advantage is, you get to fold and keep it once the festive season is over and everyone is back at their homes.
Lastly, it’s important to check with your intending visitors before the festive season. Make sure you put calls across and make confirmations as this will enable you to plan efficiently for short term and long term visitors. While some family members are looking to spend a day or two, some are looking to roll with you for the rest of the week. Having this information beforehand will keep you on your top game and will keep you from nagging when you feel overwhelmed with the influx of people in your home.
