Cluttering has now become so much of an issue that you have so many TV shows and blog posts dedicated to it. One will, therefore, wonder how people still find themselves clogged in their spaces. Regardless of where you find yourself, whether home or office, it’s important to always keep track of the energy you invite into your space. As earlier stated, today’s post focuses on the workplace and how employees can improve individual and collective productivity level by means of keeping a clean desk and a neatly organised drawer.
It’s not uncommon to find that a lot of employees at some point start to feel unproductive or flustered about work. Do you feel like you don’t know where anything is on your desk? Are you losing track of your office activities? Do you feel like your creative juices aren’t running? Then it’s time for you to evaluate your surroundings and find out what the possible problem could be.

Upon evaluating, what did you find? Do you have loads of unfinished paperwork stacked up high on your desk? Do you have files splattered across your desk? Seldom used items tucked in the corner of your desks? If you do, then you just may have found the reason for the negative energy you have towards work and it’s time for you to do the following:
Reduce your Office Items. The first step in keeping your desk clear is keeping fewer things on it and around it. This may seem like a pretty simple step, so simple that it often gets overlooked. Take a look around your desk surface. What doesn’t absolutely need to be there? Photos, calendars, books, supplies, and food should all be considered. If it’s not essential, remove it permanently
Finish Your Projects. One of the major enemies of desk clutter is unfinished projects. Sometimes, they lay on your desks for weeks distracting and mocking you. The mind clutter of an unfinished project can be crippling at times. If the project can be completed in less than 20 minutes, see it through to completion right away. If the project will take longer, find a drawer to store it in until you are ready to pull it out and work on it again.

Store Things Digitally: With Microsoft outlook, a simple Contacts program and Tasks program can probably remove 95-100% of the notes cluttering your work-space. Find one and learn to use it. The world is inking towards a fast-paced digital plain now, it’s important that you get yourself familiar with smart storage and file organising systems that should take the of sticky notes and jotters that are bound to distract your mind.
Limit Computer Distractions. While your computer can be essential in helping to eliminate the clutter from your desk, it can provide a distraction of its own. Help your cause by decluttering your computer desktop along with your physical desk. For starters, find a non-distracting wallpaper image and remove all unnecessary icons.
Set aside 5 minutes. Take the last 5 minutes of every day to clear the surface of your desk. Rest assured that once you get started with the habit, it’ll take far less than 5 minutes. But set that much aside at the beginning. Trust me, your morning you will thank you.
A clear office desk will grant you more focus, peace of mind, and productivity. And that’s good for both you and your company.
