Do you have a coffee maker for your employees?

Do you have a coffee maker for your employees?

“…half of the working class persons in Lagos that had probably planned to attack this beautiful Friday with a high spirit of vibrancy and pro-activeness suffered a huge let down this morning, as the eternal blue sky wept beyond consoling” This is no excerpt from any newspaper guys! This is the unholy reality we had to grapple with earlier today on a first Friday of the Ember months. I was particularly drenched to my boxer shorts and had resigned to being less productive for the rest of the day until my Boss surprised me with a steaming cup of black coffee. (God bless her soul) I’d like to admit that the cup of coffee inspired today’s post about why every workplace should have a tea/coffee maker.

Coffee maker

The Encounter

I will spare you the long stories about what the history of coffee and tea, but here’s what I’ll tell you: Put yourself in my place- You woke up on a bright Friday morning, bursting with fresh ideas that can drive productivity and boost sales of that new product. You leave the house in your starched shirt and shiny Oxford. You are caught up in traffic and spend the time in the bus meditating on your ideas. Just as you are about to arrive at your stop, it starts to rain. You say your little prayers to God to stop the rain, but instead of stopping, the downpour increases. The bus arrives at your stop and you alight from the bus. Seconds in the rain and you can literally feel the starch, lotion and body spray washing off you. You try to find a shade, but it’s all occupied and you decide to keep walking in the rain. Luckily, you find a next bus. The rain continues. Again, you hope and pray the rain stops just as you are about to drop, but it doesn’t. You alight from the bus and spend seconds waiting before you cross. Several cars speed-by, splashing a generous amount of colored water on you. You eventually cross and stroll towards the office. It’s still raining and all you can think about is getting warm and cosy. You eventually get to the office, leaving a generous drag of liquid after you. You try to get yourself dry; flapping and mopping your drooling self. Eventually, you settle in your cubicle, teeth clattering and fingers shaking. You can literally feel the cold clutching at your insides. But you tell yourself you a stronger than the cold. You try to bury yourself in the days work.  You turn on your work-pc. You want to document your ideas, but nothing is coming. Nothing will probably come. The ideas were smart; they stayed in the cosy of the bus…

The Solution

The rain isn’t an excuse for not being productive, but can nature be cheated? Your body needs to return to a default mode as soon as possible. You need to come up with new ideas. Your boss walks, dry and cosy, notices you and some of your colleagues looking like Titanic survivors. Your boss knows the best of you would not be put into the day’s activities. That is bad for the company. Your boss knows just what to do, but feels a slight nudge for not putting it in place as an office appliance. Your boss surfs the internet for the best e-commerce site for home appliances. Decorhubng.com comes up. Your boss orders a coffee and tea maker for the office. In fifteen minutes, the delivery arrives. Your boss personally brews a steaming cup for you and your colleagues. Your boss says to you all: You gave me your TIME; the most thoughtful gift of all, now I’m giving you a cup of coffee and more… You all chuckle. You take long sips of coffee. The color returns to your morbid face, more importantly; fresh ideas loomed…
