So people, especially newlyweds have been wondering what the 10 Essential Kitchen Appliances they must have are. This post tells it all. Kitchens have become more than just a place where meals are cooked these days. Now its a safe haven to many, where after a long day at work, making meals doesn’t seem like another chore. So why not make it comfortable? With practically every kind of machine being made lately for an easy and stress-free cooking experience, cooking is art right now. The only thing that hasn’t been invented yet (or maybe it has but I’m still unaware) is a machine to feed adults, and oh boy am I looking forward to that!
So here’s a list of 10 Essential Kitchen Appliances that YOUR home needs in no particular order:
1. Gas Cooker/Oven
If this isn’t the queen of them all, then I don’t know what is. Having a gas cooker is bliss! Ever visited grandma in the village and she asks you to start a cooking fire (with firewood of course) and you’re struggling at it for light years until she comes to your rescue? I know people say all the time that food tastes better when cooked with firewood but would you really go through all that just for tasty food? First you have to fetch the firewood from the bush…then start the fire…then… OMG need I go on? Food cooked on a gas cooker tastes really good too you know…plus it saves time and leaves your pot sparkling.

2. Blender:
Say Goodbye to Mortar and Pestle! Have everything you want to be blended in a blender. Usually, blenders come with two cups- one for liquid and the other for dry food, etc. Blenders come in a transparent big cup with a blade at the bottom which is propelled by a motor. With the different speed levels on a blender, you can decide to have your items evenly blended or mashed up.

3. Microwave:
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I would rather have some things that have been refrigerated/frozen be microwaved rather than warmed e.g fried plantain, yam. In my opinion (and that of let’s say a million other people), some things just SHOULD NEVER be warmed over a fire. Some other amazing things microwaves can be used for are- grilling, cooking rice, thawing frozen food, popping corn etc.
4. Fridge/Freezer:
This is a must-have in every household. Once in every year (although in Nigeria it’s every other day), that unforgiving heat wave comes rolling through your windows and doors. Believe me, having a cold drink in the fridge is all you need to keep your cool. Then, of course, cooking every day should be the least of your problems when you can do all the cooking in one day and stuff it all in the freezer. Life made easy.
5. Pressure Cooker:
For the pepper soup lovers, do you ever wonder why things like shaki, roundabout, cow leg and some of those other obstacles you love to see in the soup take so long to get tender while cooking? Well, that’s cause not everything is meant to be cooked in a pot. A pressure cooker does that magic. It uses less water to cook. It does this by sealing the steam inside the pot and as it does this, the temperature rises, leading to a faster-cooked meal. It is faster than most conventional cooking methods.
6. Toaster/Sandwich Maker:
Sometimes bread is better eaten crunchy. A toaster helps achieve that. on the other hand, a sandwich maker helps make the proper sandwich, fried eggs and even makes perfect waffles too.
7. Electric Chimney/Cooker Hood:
This is an appliance that is highly beneficial to the health conscious ones. Anyone who suffers from asthma but shys away from cooking can be rest assured that this electric chimney/Cooker Hood will take care of fumes and other pollens that could trigger an attack while cooking.
8. Juicer:
Hearing about how one of my favorite carbonated soft drinks could be dangerous to the body, I realized how important it was to have a juicer in the kitchen. Juicers are great for extracting the juice out of fruits and veggies. Having a glass of fresh juice a day keeps you away from the doctors.
9. Food Processor:
Food processors can be used for a variety of things in the kitchen. For those who love pounded yam but are scared of how stressful pounding the yam can be, a food processor is your genie. There are manual and electric food processors. Make your choice!
10. Water Heater:
This might sound odd but is really a very essential part of getting things done in the kitchen. It gets you hot water without having to turn on the gas. There are countless times when we need hot water in the kitchen and what a convenient way to go about it than to have a water heater linked directly to the tap.
